At the Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Timber Trade Association held on 27 June 2019 in Stirling, Roderick Aitken of Gilmour & Aitken Ltd, was elected President and Scott Shiells of Glennon Brothers (UK) Limited was elected Vice-President.
Roderick Aitken is a Director of Gilmour & Aitken Ltd, timber importers and merchants of Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, which specialises in high quality hardwoods and softwoods, including Greenheart and other construction timbers. The Company was established in 1852 and Roderick is the fifth generation of his family in the Company.
Speaking at the AGM, Roderick Aitken said “I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed President of STTA. It is good to see the Association in very good health and going from strength to strength. Our Members’ meetings are well attended, informative and vibrant. These meetings continue to address a wide range of local, national and international topics on behalf of Members. STTA is committed to serving the needs of its Members, with a focus on the practical issues that affect businesses in the timber trade in Scotland. STTA can truly be described as the voice of the timber trade in Scotland”.
As part of the Members’ meeting and AGM, Members received a fascinating and informative presentation on modified wood products in general, and Accoya and Tricoya in particular, from Mike Lewis of Accsys Technologies, which was very well received.
